Peel’s dramatic last-gasp victory over Old Firm rivals Rushen has been rewarded with four players in the latest Team of the Week.

Matt Lamb gave the Spaniards a first-half lead at Douglas Road in front of the new Terry Vincent Stand, before Billy Kennaugh equalised and Lee Gale grabbed an 89th-minute winner for the hosts.

It was very much a case of defences on top in the Sunset City as two of the hosts’ back four make it into the latest Isle of Man Newspapers TotW and are joined by their goalkeeper.

The shot-stopper in question is Owen Dawson whose fledgling career continued to go from strength to strength with an assured performance for Steve Falconer’s men to claim his first Team of the Week appearance this season, one of four debutants.

In front of him are his fellow westerners Tom Wood - his first appearance - and Dominic McGreevy who were both pillars of strength in the heart of the Peel defence, successfully nullifying the efforts of Mike Williams and former team-mate Josh Kelly.

Joining them in the Team of the Week defence is Sam Ingham and David Caldwell who impressed for St John’s and Colby respectively.

Caldwell was one of Colby’s star performers as the Moonlighters recorded an excellent 2-1 victory at home to St Mary’s, a result which could prove crucial in the southerners’ bid to stave off relegation.

Ingham was in typically fine form as he helped the Saints get to within minutes of recording a famous victory over Grand Slam winners St George’s, before the latter hit back late on to snatch a 3-3 draw.

His Mullen-e-Cloie cohort Nick Leung was another to impress in that game against the champions and he is rewarded with a place as a defensive midfielder in the latest TotW, his first call-up of the campaign.

Also claiming his first Team of the Appearance this season is another player who impressed in that same game, Joe Quayle who helped Geordies maintain their 20-match unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Completing the midfield line-up is Rushen United’s midfielder Lamb who was perhaps a little unlucky to be on the losing side at Douglas Road as he capped a fine performance with a goal for the Spaniards.

In the end that strike was not enough for the Croit Lowey side as Gale completed the turnaround with that last-minute winner and the Peel winger was subsequently rewarded with his third TotW appearance of the season already.

Leading the line up front for the latest hypothetical XI are Danny Lane and Rhys Oates.

Lane was the star of the show for Colby with a brace as the Moonlighters boosted their survival hopes with that 2-1 win over St Mary’s, while Oates was amongst the scorers for St John’s as Rick Holden’s men produced an excellent display against Geordies.

Claiming the refereeing honours for the third time this season is Andy Lodge who impressed with the whistle during the Old Firm clash at Douglas Road between Peel and Rushen, edging out Jonny Hogg who excelled in the middle of the battle of the Saints at Glencrutchery Road.
