The decision to postpone two Canada Life Premier League games on the opening day of the 2020-21 season will be a ’one-off’ according to the Isle of Man Football Association.

The matches between Corinthians v Peel and Rushen United v St George’s on the afternoon of Saturday, August 15 have been called off because of FC Isle of Man’s inaugural match against Guernsey at the Bowl the same evening.

The decision was met with an outcry on social media but it is believed this will not set a precedent for the entire season, instead it will be a one-off.

The IoMFA commented: ’This is a one-off situation. We have worked with FC Isle of Man to support them and our club teams on this special occasion for island football.

’Clearly going forward there will be no postponements in our local leagues when FC IoM have home or away fixtures on the same day.’

A look at the opening fixtures of the 2020-21 season is in this week’s Isle of Man Examiner, on sale now.

The annual FourFiveOne football preview pull-out special will be in the Manx Independent on sale Thursday, August 13. Digital editions available at http://www.iomtoday.co.im/subscribe.cfm
