Ramsey’s Dominic Parish has been named as the Canada Life Premier League player of the month for February.
The northern defender was in fine form for the Ballacloan outfit during what proved to be the final few weeks of the 2019-20 Manx football season.
In line with the English FA and as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Isle of Man Football Association announced last week that the campaign had been abandoned.
Therefore, the results of all games played in both senior and junior competitions have unfortunately been declared null and void. It remains to be seen how the leagues will shape up for the 2020-21 season, but Ramsey had given themselves hope of staying in the Premier League in the weeks prior to the suspension of the local game.
Parish had played an integral part of that, with the northern defender impressing with an excellent performance against Corinthians in early February and following it up with another strong showing against fellow relegation battlers Pulrose United at Springfield Road in a 1-1 draw.
Therefore, Parish picked up the main Player of the Month award having garnered a total of five points from Eric Clague’s player ratings panel.
Another player impressing in that latter match in Pully was Reds defender Owen Quayle who duly finished second in the monthly rankings with a score of 4.5 points.
Quayle was one of Pulrose’s most consistent performers during the curtailed 2019-20 season and, as well as impressing against Ramsey, also shone in his side’s hard-fought defeat away at DHSOB.
Continuing the defensive theme in the monthly standings, the rest of the top six places are all filled by defenders.
St Mary’s duo Karl Clark and player/manager Alex Harrison both excelled during February and were joined on four points by Laxey’s utility man Max Murley plus Parish’s Ramsey team-mate Dylan Pickles.
Clark and Harrison enjoyed typically fine seasons at the back for the Saints as the Bowl outfit appeared well on course to successfully defend their Premier League title until the season was abandoned.
Likewise, Murley maintained his good early-season form into the latter stages of the campaign as Laxey finished in a fine sixth place in the table.
Like Parish, Pickles was one of Ramsey’s star performers throughout the campaign and his displays during February earned him the Young Player of the Month accolade.
Although it remains to be seen what happens with the seasonal awards, the overall standings at the time of the league’s suspension saw St Mary’s star Jack McVey leading the way with 27.5 points, two ahead of Corinthians attacker Ste Whitley on 25.5, with McVey’s Saints team-mate Frank Jones completing the top three on 24.
