The end of the season is fast approaching but the debuts continue to wrack up in the latest Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week.

No fewer than four players make their seasonal debuts in the hypothetical XI after a potentially pivotal weekend in the Canada Life Premier League.

The main focus last Saturday was at the bottom of the table where Marown and Castletown both recorded vital wins to all but seal their places in the top flight next year, and they boast two players each in the latest selection.

Veteran goalkeeper Paul Camarda produced a fine performance at The Stadium where Town edged past relegation rivals Douglas Royal and therefore he makes his first TotW appearance of the campaign.

Also impressing in that match was Joel Callow who delivered a man of the match display in the heart of the Mets’ defence to earn his third call-up of the season.

Joining him in a three-man TotW defence are Rushen United’s Adam Cregeen and Peel’s Tom Wood.

Debutant Cregeen continued his comeback from long-term absence with an excellent showing during the Spaniards fine win at home to Corinthians at Croit Lowey, while Wood shone for Peel at both ends of the pitch as had a hand in several goals during the westerners’ win over Douglas Athletic.

The other two debutants in the latest Team of the Week take their place in a four-man midfield, namely Stuart Morris of Marown and Rushen’s Jamie Johnston.

Morris was instrumental in Marown overcoming bottom-of-the-table Laxey in a dramatic clash at the Memorial Playing Fields, netting twice as the nine-men hosts won 6-4.

Johnston was Rushen’s hero as his man of the match performance inspired the Spaniards to come from behind to beat Corinthians by the odd goal in five in the south of the island.

Joining them in a four-man midfield are St John’s starlet Dean Leece and St George’s talisman Chris Bass Jr who went head-to-head at Mullen-e-Cloie.

The hosts threatened to pull off a major upset as Leece’s men raced into a two-goal lead - helped by a fine showing from the youngster - before Bass Jr helped Geordies mount a comeback, grabbing a goal as his side eventually triumphed 5-3.

Grabbing the headlines in that game was Sam Caine who, for the second week running, claimed the match ball with a well-taken hat-trick and he duly takes his place in a front three.

Slotting in alongside him are Marown’s Ashley Higginbotham and Peel’s Player of the Year contender Rhys Oates.

Like Morris, Higginbotham produced a fine display to help the Crosby side move to within touching distance of Premier League safety.

There was no doubting the star of the show at Douglas Road where Oates helped himself to his fourth hat-trick of the season to help the westerners edge past plucky Douglas Athletic.

Picking up the refereeing honours for the fifth time this season is Stuart Kneen who enjoyed a fine performance in the middle of the Rushen v Corinthians clash at Croit Lowey.
