There’s a potentially huge game in the battle for survival in the Canada Life Premier League this weekend.

The game in question sees Marown host promoted Castletown at the Memorial Playing Fields, two teams who are currently hovering just above the drop zone.

A few weeks ago, both sides looked set to be in for a long, hard season, but recent wins have lifted the mood at both clubs who have given themselves real hope of staving off relegation.

An Ashley Higginbotham-inspired Marown put Laxey to the sword while Town claimed back-to-back wins over Douglas Royal and Laxey to move six points clear of bottom club Royal.

All signs point to this being a close game and one which could well go either way in Crosby on Saturday.

Elsewhere in the top flight, St George’s can book their place in the Christmas time Railway Cup should they get the better of Douglas Athletic at Glencrutchery Road. Geordies saw their unbeaten start to the season ended by Peel last time out and therefore they’ll be eager to get back to winning ways and seal a top-four berth at the halfway point.

DAFC started the season in superb form but a tough run of fixtures has seen them struggle in recent weeks. If, however, they can somehow stun Geordies and claim a win this weekend, they would leapfrog the champions and leave the Saints needing to beat Castletown in their rearranged fixture to seal a place in the Railway Cup.

League leaders Peel, fresh from that impressive win at St George’s, will be red hot favourites to continue their unbeaten run when they travel to relegation-threatened Laxey at Glen Road

Bottom-of-the-table Douglas Royal face a tough test this weekend when theywelcome title hopefuls St Mary’s to Ballafletcher where a win for the visitors would book their place in the cup.

Royal have improved of late and claimed a good win over St John’s, but they will be hard-pushed to get anything out of Alex Harrison’s side.

The final game this Saturday sees St John’s head south to take on Rushen United at Croit Lowey. The Spaniards are all but out of the race for the Railway Cup but will be desperate to record back-to-back wins for only the second time this season.
