Corinthians, Laxey and Rushen United continued their 100 per cent winning starts to the Canada Life Premier League season on Saturday afternoon.
Reigning champions St Mary’s were made to pay the penalty against Corinthians as the Whites won 4-2 at Ballafletcher, thanks largely to Stephen Whitley’s hat-trick.
A Whitley penalty plus a Luke Murray strike put Blane Slattery’s hosts in control early on, but the Saints drew level courtesy of Ste Priestnal and Jack McVey’s penalty either side of half-time.
Just when it looked like the two sides would be forced to settle for a point apiece, Corinthians were awarded two more penalties late on which Whitley converted - one at the second attempt after Kiril Velev had saved his initial effort - to seal all three points for the home side.
Laxey were in fine goalscoring form as they put seven past Douglas Royal at Glen Road. Matty Wilkinson led the way with a hat-trick, while there were also strikes from Andy Burkitt, Joe Walters, Dave Reynolds and Harry Walters.
Rushen were too strong for Ramsey at Croit Lowey as they recorded a 5-0 victory. Jamie Johnston bagged a couple of goals and was joined on the scoresheet by Dan Hattersley, Ste Riding and Aaron Hawley.
St George’s began life under Johnny Myers with a comprehensive 4-0 win at home to near-neighbours DHSOB at Glencrutchery Road. Connor Hislop helped himself to a brace while FC Isle of Man stars Jacob Crook and Ciaran McNulty completed the scoring.
Elsewhere in the top flight, St John’s and Douglas Athletic shared four goals at Mullen-e-Cloie. Martin Cowan and summer signing Jonny Knowles netted for the Pinks, while there were no details of the Saints scorers.
Union Mills continued their high-scoring start to the 2020-21 season with a 6-3 victory away at Colby. Luke Booth was the star of the show with a hat-trick for the Millers, while Colm Garrity scored a brace and was joined on the scoresheet by Jordan Crawley.
Ste Collister (2) and Jordan Edge grabbed the consolations for the Moonlighters.
RYCOB returned to winning ways with a 5-1 win over Castletown, while Braddan went one better with a 6-0 success at home to Michael United thanks to a Nick Harvey hat-trick plus a Lee Currer brace and a Jamie Spicer strike.
Governor’s Athletic’s winning start to the campaign was brought to an abrupt halt by Gymns who recorded a 3-0 win in Tromode thanks to goals from Conor Dempsey, Luke Fisher and Tom White.
A Mark Quirk hat-trick helped Douglas and District ease to a 9-0 win at Pulrose United, with the other goals coming from Lewis Qualtrough (2), Luke Callister, Daniel Stewart-Clague, Ben Hall and Daniel Kinley.
There was an entertaining game at the Bowl where Onchan and Malew played out a 3-3 draw.
There were no details of the Os’ scorers but Dan McLaughlin netted a brace for the southerners and was joined by Jamie Skillen who scored on his debut for the Clagh Vane side.
