The fight for places in the semi-finals of this season’s GH Corlett Woods Cup takes centre stage for JCK Division Two sides on Saturday.

The cup draw has produced some intriguing ties, the pick of which is at Garey Mooar where Union Mills host fellow high-fliers Ayre United. The latter currently lie second in the table three points ahead of this weekend’s opponents and will therefore go into the match as marginal favourites.

The teams played out one of the games of the season so far back in November when Ayre came from 3-1 down at half-time to stun the Millers 7-4 in a goal-fest in Andreas, which points to this being another entertaining game.

Another close game should be on the cards at Billy Goat Park where St John’s are the visitors to Foxdale.

The Saints are 10 points head of the home side in the table at present, but Foxdale have two games in hand and will be eager to get back to winning ways after coming unstuck 4-2 against Mills last time out.

Indeed when the sides last met in September, Foxdale romped to a 5-1 win at Billy Goat which is the Saints’ only league defeat of the campaign so far. Having won their last four league games in a row, the Saints are in fine fettle and will fancy their chances of progressing in the cup.

In previous seasons, Douglas and District have shown they are more than capable of embarking on a successful cup run and they will be fired up when they travel to the Nivison Stadium to face Onchan.

With the Os having an inconsistent season - with eight wins and six defeats from their 14 games - D&D may well be confident of causing an upset but Onchan won 4-1 when the sides met in October and so will go into the game as favourites.

The final Woods Cup game this weekend sees Braddan journey south to take on Malew at Clagh Vane. With the hosts sitting near the foot of the table and the Swans faring well in fifth place, the away side will be odds on to book their place in the last four, especially given that they won the previous meeting 7-0, but they will need to guard against complacency.

Away from the cup, there are two games taking place in JCK Division Two as Colby entertain Michael United and Gymns host RYCOB.
