Six Canada Life Premier League games over the weekend meant IoM Newspapers’ Team of the Week selectors were almost spoilt for choice in picking their latest XI.

The top-flight action started a little earlier than usual with a Friday evening game under the floodlights of Mullen-e-Cloie.

Title contenders Corinthians got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over hosts St John’s. Three of the players that featured in that match make it into the TotW. Striker Sean Doyle earns his second TotW stripes of the season after he scored both goals in the Whites’ victory.

Also impressing was Doyle’s team-mate Connor Gorman and he slots into the XI’s midfield ranks.

Johnners’ keeper Damyan Petkov returned from injury with a solid showing against the Ballafletcher outfit, and he lands the TotW’s coveted number one jersey after several fine stops.

Making up the hypotethical XI’s back four are players from four different clubs.

Claiming the two full-back berths are Braddan’s Carl Wagstaffe and Douglas Athletic’s Danny Pennighton.

The pair were on opposing sides on Saturday as the Pinks beat the promoted Swans 2-1 at Springfield Road to clock up their third win on the bounce.

Forming the side’s centre-back partnership are Peel’s summer signing Jonny Shields and Laxey’s Isle of Man FA under-18 cap Andrew Burkitt.

The latter was one of the Miners’ star turns as they picked up a first win in five with a high-scoring 5-3 victory over bottom side Douglas Royal.

Shields produced a dogged display as Cu-Plas Railway Cup qualification rivals Peel and DHSOB battled to a 1-1 draw at a muddy Blackberry Lane on Saturday.

The TotW’s midfield ranks comprise of Gorman, Robbie Ward (DHSOB) and youngsters George Burrows (Laxey) and Jordan Cooper (St Mary’s).

Ward’s set-pieces posed problems throughout for Peel.

The experienced left-footer hit the post with one free-kick and another led to King smashing in the equaliser for his side.

Burrows added to his stock at Glen Road with a fine showing in the triumph over Royal, a performance he capped with a goal.

Fellow teen Cooper was also on the scoresheet at the weekend netting twice as St Mary’s beat Ramsey 4-1 to win Alex Harrison’s first game in charge.

This week’s final TotW spot goes to Rushen’s mercurial front man Josh Kelly who bagged four goals in the Spaniards 7-0 demolition of former club Colby on Saturday.

Landing the Referee of the Week accolade for the second successive week is John McCallum who shone with the whistle during Laxey’s triumph over Douglas Royal at Glen Road.
