The Isle of Man Newspapers Team of the Week selectors had a rare, full top-flight fixture card to choose their XI from this week.

The 15th TotW of the Canada Life Premier League campaign includes six making their seasonal bow in the hypothetical XI after impressing in the weekend’s six games.

There were some big games and results at the weekend, none more so than at Glencrutchery Road where reigning champions St George’s beat title challengers Peel 3-1.

Geordies’ talisman Chris Bass Jr picked up two goals and the Man of the Match honours as the Saints moved to within three points of leaders Corinthians, but with two games in hand.

Also catching the eye for Chris Bass Sr’s men were the re-called Johnny Myers and defender Sam Caine.

Myers slots into the TotW’s midfield after shining in the middle of the park with a commanding performance, while Caine adapted well to frustrate the Peel attack in a new position of centre-back.

Another team claiming a notable result at the weekend were bottom side Ramsey who triumphed 2-3 away at Douglas Athletic to land only their second win of the campaign.

Two of the northerners’ star turns make it into the TotW in the form of Martin Torr and skipper Nick White.

Former Isle of Man FA striker Torr stood-out in the unfamiliar position of goalkeeper, while White earns his third TotW stripes of the season after helping to blunt the Pinks’ attack. The win lifts the Ballacloan to within four points of third-bottom Colby who have played six games more than Torr’s side.

Corinthians remain the league’s pacesetters after a slender 0-1 win at DHSOB.

Centre-back Cameron Lee continued his return to form with a Man of the Match showing as the Whites kept a ninth clean sheet of the campaign.

Deciding that hard-fought match in the Ballafletcher outfit’s favour was Stephen Whitley’s precision free-kick and he joins Myers and Bass Jr in the side’s three-man midfield.

The side’s front three of Josh Kelly (Rushen) and St John’s pair Rhys Oates and Paul Whitehead scored 10 goals between them.

Kelly bagged a hat-trick as the Spaniards beat Braddan 4-0 at Croit Lowey.

Oates and recent Saints’ signing Whitehead pillaged four and three goals respectively as the Johnners’ kicked off the weekend with an 8-2 win over Colby on Friday evening.

Completing the side is St Mary’s centre-back Alex Harrison who was the Saints’ stand-out player as they beat Douglas Royal 4-0 at the Bowl.

There’s a new face picking up the Referee of the Week honours in the shape of John Robertson who impressed with the whistle as Rushen beat Braddan.
