The debutants continue to come thick and fast in the latest edition of Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week.

No fewer than six players make their seasonal bows in the hypothetical XI, while by contrast two players make their third appearance of the campaign already.

Two of the aforementioned debutants line up in a three-man defence, namely Douglas Athletic youngster Lee Cain and DHSOB talent Adam Adebiyi.

The latter man shone for the Blackberry Lane outfit with a strong performance during their impressive 3-1 win at home to Rushen United, while Cain excelled at right-back for the Pinks as they continued their fine start to the season with a 5-0 win over Marown.

Completing the back line is one of Adebiyi’s defensive cohorts, captain Martin King, who delivered a typically battling performance at the heart of the Old Boys defence to thwart the Spaniards.

Also impressing in that game was DHSOB goalkeeper Sam Halliday who pulled off several good saves to help ensure his side secured all three points on offer, therefore claiming his second successive TotW number one jersey.

The latest Team of the Week midfield also features a couple of debutants in the shape of Stephen Whitley and Declan Cummins who shone for Corinthians and St Mary’s.

Whitley got his side off to the perfect start against champions St George’s at Glencrutchery Road on Saturday, netting an early goal as the two top flight heavyweights played out a dramatic 3-3 draw. Likewise, Cummins was in the thick of the action throughout for St Mary’s and helped himself to a couple of goals to set the Bowl outfit on their way to a 7-0 win over Castletown to remain at the top of the table.

Claiming the man of the match honours in that game at the national stadium though was his team-mate and captain, Frank Jones, who ran the show with a well-taken hat-trick to inspire his side to a comprehensive win.

Successfully earning their third TotW call-ups of the campaign are Ste Cowan and Daniel Bell who were in sublime form for Douglas Athletic and Peel respectively.

Cowan and the Pinks have enjoyed a remarkable start to the season and his calming influence in the heart of the DAFC midfield enabled them to brush aside newly-promoted Marown 5-0 at Springfield Road. Bell, meanwhile, was once again his side’s star performer as the Sunset City side battled past a spirited St John’s in a western derby at Douglas Road. For a while it looked like the Saints would claim a surprise win, but a Bell-inspired Peel bounced back with two late goals to snatch a vital 4-2 win.

Leading the line in the latest Team of the Week are two players who are certainly no strangers to Eric Clague’s ratings panel. The players in question are Calum Morrissey and Michael Fernandes who excelled for St George’s and Laxey at the weekend.

The latter man helped himself to two goals against Douglas Royal at Ballafletcher as the Miners claimed their first points of the season.

Morrissey was the game-changer for Geordies as his half-time introduction - when his side were trailing 2-0 against Corinthians - sparked an impressive revival. The Shire scored one and played a key role in the late equaliser which salvaged a 3-3 draw at home to the Whites which preserved their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Picking up the refereeing honours for the first time this season is Peter Greenhill who produced a good performance in the middle of the Douglas Royal v Laxey contest at Ballafletcher.
