There’s a whole manner of knockout competition quarter-finals on Saturday with games in both the FA Cup and Woods Cup taking place.
In the former Friends Provident International-sponsored competition the three remaining last-eight ties are set to be played after they were postponed because of wet weather on March 4.
At least one Division Two side will make it into this season’s semi-finals with Foxdale hosting an all-second-tier affair with Douglas and District at Billy Goat Park. The pair have one win apiece in the two sides’ two league meeting thus far, suggesting this should be a tight game.
Dale will be slight favourites to advance, but have struggled for game time in recent weeks and may be a little rusty.
Another Division Two team that has been plagued by postponements in recent weeks is Braddan.
The Swans’ promotion bid has been hit by a series of weather-related postponements and they have only played three times since the turn of the year.
Not ideal preperation for a trip to holders Peel and their temporary home in Colby. The Premier League side has won its last six and should welcome back top scorer Ashley Webster after he missed last week’s narrow win over Ramsey.
Peel will be wary of the threat of Braddan top scorer Andy Glover, but should continue their Cup defence into the semis.
Also looking to join St George’s in the last four are near-neighbours Douglas Athletic and St Mary’s who meet at Springfield Road. Expect the latter to emerge victorious from this one.
In the Woods Cup, three ties are scheduled for Saturday. Douglas Royal’s hopes of a second-tier treble face the test of a trip to Castletown.
Royal are a team in form, however, and should bag the win.
Two close games are on the cards in the day’s other two Woods Cup matches.
Onchan host Pulrose in what should be a cracker at the Nivision, while at Tromode Gymns face RYCOB.
The latter two met in the league only a couple of weeks ago with Gymns coming out on top 3-1.
Pully and Onchan could go either way and may even need extra time to separate the pair.
