There’s three debutants in the ninth Isle of Man Newspapers Team of the Week of the Canada Life Premier League campaign.
Ryan Holdaway (Peel), Robbie Ward (DHSOB) and Danny Gerrard (Corinthians) all line in up in the hypothetical XI for the first time this term after impressing in Saturday’s four top-flight fixtures.
Peel striker Holdaway makes his seasonal debut capping a good all-round performance with a goal as the westnerners overcame a stubborn Pulrose United at Springfield Road.
Gerrard is one of three Corinthians players in this week’s selection after the Whites beat Railway Cup qualification rivals Laxey 6-0 at Ballafletcher.
The former St Mary’s midfielder was full of energy in the middle of the park for Blane Slattery’s charges, capping a good performance with a goal as the Miners were brushed aside.
Douglas High School Old Boys’ stalwart Ward is the third debutant this week, after the set-piece specialist troubled the scorers as the Blackberry Lane outfit narrowly lost 1-2 to high-flying Rushen.
Joining Ward and Gerrard in the TotW’s midfield ranks are Peel’s Daniel Bell and St Mary’s Frank Jones.
Like Holdaway, Bell grabbed a goal as the Sunset City side kept their feint Railway Cup hopes alive with victory in South Douglas.
At the same time, Bell’s fellow Isle of Man FA cap Frank Jones was impressing on the adjacent Springfield Road pitch.
The Saints took a big stride towards securing their place in the Railway Cup semi-finals with a 5-0 win at near neighbours Douglas Athletic.
Jones bagged a brace in that match to rubber stamp his third TotW inclusion of the season.
Corinthians attacker Ste Whitley was in imperious form of the weekend netting twice and having a hand in several other goals as Laxey were well beaten.
The TotW’s back four and goalkeeper only conceded one goal between them at the weekend.
Rushen keeper Dean Kearns produced several top-draw saves as the Spaniards kept pace with leaders St Mary’s thanks to a 2-1 win at DHSOB.
Kearns’s club-mate Alex Maitland also slots into the side, the CLPL’s October Player of the Month continuing his good form at the heart of the Spaniards’ defence.
Cameron Lee was impressive at the back for Corinthians as they beat Laxey, becoming the first side to keep a clean sheet against the Miners this season in the process.
St Mary’s duo Alex Harrison and Jack McVey complete the back four, the pair helping their side to a fourth shutout of the term as DAFC were dispatched 5-0.
The latter also chipped in with two goals, as he earns his sixth TotW stripes of the season.
Referee of the Week for the first time this campaign is Darren Flanagan who impressed with the whistle as Peel triumphed at Pulrose.
