The dash to the Canada Life Premier League title looks more and more a two-horse race as each week passes.

The top two, Peel and St Mary’s, are beginning to stretch their legs at the head of the standings and currently hold a comfortable lead over the chasing pack that is headed by Rushen United and St George’s.

These pair meet at the latter’s Glencrutchery Road ground on Saturday, with victory the only thing that is going to keep them on the coattails of the pacesetters.

The Spaniards currently sit third, three points ahead of a Geordies side that has three games in hand against Douglas Royal, Old Boys and Douglas Athletic.

Liam Cowin’s Croit Lowey outfit took a point off St Mary’s last week and are currently on an unbeaten run stretching back to November.

Geordies, who won the reverse fixture 0-2, will be in confident mood themselves after hitting Castletown for 11 last week. With both so well matched a draw looks likely, one that would give the top two further breathing space at the summit.

St Mary’s can close to within three points of Peel as they play one of their two games in hand on the westerners on Saturday.

The Saints will be favourites to mop up the points when out-of-form St John’s make the trip to the Bowl at the weekend.

At the foot of the standings, Castletown will be hoping to put some space between themselves and bottom side Laxey.

The Miners are not playing this week meaning if Town win they can move six points clear of them in the race to beat the drop.

Town are away at inconsistent Douglas Athletic this week. The Pinks will start as favourites, but could cough up a point for the southerners yet.

Marown sit only a point better off than Castletown, and may yet sneak another point this week when they travel to Douglas High School Old Boys.

Old Boys beat St John’s last week and should have enough in their locker to edge this one.

Douglas Royal’s recent good run was brought to an end by Marown last week, but they will do well to bounce back in the Ballafletcher derby with Corinthians side still scrapping for a top-four spot.
