There’s some tasty-looking ties in the ECAP FA Cup’s preliminary round on Saturday afternoon.
Arguably tie of the round takes place out west where Peel host neighbours St John’s United at Douglas Road in what has all the hallmarks of a classic cup tie.
Top-flight Peel will be favourites to get their title defence off to a winning start, but the promotion-chasing Johnners will go into this one fired up as Callum Taggart’s team eye a sizeable scalp.
The Division Two outfit, however, will be hampered by a lack of game time with their last two league fixtures falling foul of the weather.
Another side aiming to pull off a cup-set will be Nick Hurt’s Michael United.
The Aces entertain Premier League Douglas Athletic at Balleira Road in a tie that could prove a banana skin for the Pinks.
Michael may have lost one of their Galácticos in recent weeks with Calum Morrissey returning to former club St George’s, but they recently persuaded former Silver Boot winner Andy Glover to dust down his boots and hang up his refereeing whistle.
If he and the Manx Premier League’s all-time top scorer Ciaran McNulty spark in front of goal, an Athletic side that shipped nine at the weekend could be in trouble.
The other Premier League love-in takes place in Crosby where Marown take on Rushen United.
The pair have met twice already this season, the Spaniards notching eight goals without reply over the course of the two matches.
Union Mills face Onchan in an all-Division Two match-up. Saturday’s cup tie at Garey Mooar marks the first of two games in as many weeks between the pair, with the duo meeting in the league next weekend. The Millers won the sides’ first meeting of the campaign in September 9-1 and should advance in this one.
