With new leaders St George’s having a weekend off, St Mary’s could wrestle top spot back in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday.
Mary’s currently trail Geordies by one point but will start as favourites to get the better of Douglas Athletic when the two sides meet at the Bowl this weekend.
The Pinks have enjoyed a fine start to the 2018-19 season but went down to a Lee Gale-inspired Peel last time out and need a positive result this weekend to keep their Railway Cup hopes alive.
St Mary’s saw their unbeaten start to the campaign end abruptly away at Peel a couple of weeks ago and, after a week off, will be chomping at the bit to get back to winning ways.
There’s also a cracking game on the cards in the west of the island where Peel entertain DHSOB at Douglas Road in another crucial game in the race for Railway Cup qualification.
The Sunset City side are currently looking good in third place but, with only three points separating them from sixth-placed Old Boys - who have a superior goal difference - they know they can’t really afford to lose this weekend.
Unfortunately for Liam Buckley’s visitors, they look set to be without several of their star players for Saturday’s clash and will go into the match as underdogs.
Fresh from claiming their first points of the season with victory over Douglas Royal last weekend, Castletown face another potentially vital relegation clash this Saturday when they welcome Laxey to The Stadium.
The latter side were out of sorts last Saturday as they crashed to a heavy 5-1 defeat to fellow relegation candidates Marown, therefore they will be desperate to respond quickly.
Town impressed against Royal though, with Jack Camarda in particular catching the eye, and they have targeted this game as a possible three-pointer.
After that stunning win over Laxey, Marown face a much tougher task this weekend when they welcome title hopefuls Corinthians to the Memorial Playing Fields. The Whites should prove too strong in this one.
The final game sees bottom-of-the-table Royal head to St John’s desperate to claim their first point(s) of the campaign.
