Only a handful of football matches survived the bad weather across the island on Saturday.

The sole game in the Canada Life Premier League saw a battle of the Saints at the Bowl where hosts St Mary’s ended St John’s recent good run of form.

The home side raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to Tommy Johnson’s early goal and Karl Clark’s header on the stroke of half-time, before a quickfire double from Ste Priestnal increased their lead.

But visiting strikes by Alex Holden and Ant Moore set up an exciting finale before the game eventually ended 4-2, a result which lifts St Mary’s up to seventh in the table.

Just a couple of games went ahead in JCK Division Two but there was certainly no shortage of goals, with no fewer than 15 being scored.

The majority of these came at Clagh Vane where Malew and Ayre United shared 10 goals in a thriller in the south of the island.

The home side stormed into a resounding 6-0 lead thanks to braces from Dean Kinley and Dale Walker plus single strikes from Kieran Krypner and Ash Egan.

However, the Tangerines mounted a stirring fightback in the latter stages and scored no fewer than four times to cause a few nervy moments for the home side.

Andrew Crowe, Dylan Gampbell, Stephen Mealin and James Bucuris all netted for Ayre but in the end it proved too little too late as Malew ran out 6-4 winners.

It was a much more straightforward victory for RYCOB who were comfortable 5-0 winners at Noble’s Park against Douglas and District, which keeps the northerners well placed in the top four.

Over in Canada Life Combination One, the only game to go ahead saw leaders Rushen United get back to winning ways with a 5-2 success at home to Douglas Athletic, while in JCK Combination Two there were 10 goals shared between Pulrose United and Governor’s Athletic at Springfield Road in a 5-5 draw.

Owen Canipa led the way for the hosts with a hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Jamie Cowin who grabbed a brace.
