The big games at the top of the Canada Life Premier League keep coming as the race for Railway Cup semi-final spots begins to take shape.

Realistically six teams - St Mary’s, St George’s, Rushen, Laxey, Peel and Corinthians - are in the mix for a top-four spot at the season’s halfway point.

The recent wet weather has caused a number of postponements that will likely delay the final from its traditional Boxing Day date.

The competitive nature of the top six means that all have already taken points off each other and that no one has broken clear at the top.

Reigning champions St Mary’s currently lead the standings on 18 points, a tally though that could be matched by both St George’s and Corinthians if they win their games in hand.

Two of the three meet this Saturday as the two sets of Saints clash at the Bowl.

Both have lost one game apiece this season, the champions at Rushen and Geordies last time out away at Peel.

The corresponding fixture last campaign ended in a 1-1 and expect an equally tight match at the national stadium this weekend.

Two more of the Railway Cup qualification contenders lock horns in the west.

Peel host Corinthians with both sides claiming notable results last time out.

The Whites edged past Rushen 3-2, while Peel ended Geordies’ 100 per cent start to the campaign with a 5-3 triumph at Douglas Road.

Again, this looks too close to call. Home advantage would perhaps make Peel marginal favourites, but Corinthians boast the division’s only 100 per cent away record, plundering 20 goals in their two games away from Ballafletcher.

Rushen will be favourites to bounce back from last week’s defeat at the hands of Corinthians when they take on bottom side Pulrose.

Laxey should also get the better of Douglas Athletic as they look to maintain their surprise Railway Cup bid at Glen Road.

There’s a tasty-looking fixture at the foot of the standings as Douglas Royal host DHSOB at Ballafletcher.

Royal got off the mark with a narrow win at DAFC a couple of weeks back and will hope to build on that against Liam Buckley’s charges who have also won only once thus far this term.
