While the top of the table took centre stage last weekend, focus is very much on the bottom of the Canada Life Premier League this weekend on what has been billed as ’Survival Saturday.’

One week ago, Laxey looked nearly dead and buried some seven points from safety, but their stunning win over Rushen United coupled with Douglas Royal’s victory over Marown has tightened it all up again at the bottom.

This weekend the Miners travel west to take on Marown in Crosby and, while a win for the hosts would see them all but safe for another year, victory for Laxey would leave them only one point behind their opponents.

Elsewhere, second-bottom Castletown host Royal at the Stadium knowing a win could see them leapfrog Marown and closer to safety. However, the Mets go into this game on the back of an 11-1 drubbing St George’s, while the Whites will be on a high from last week’s win.

There’s also a big game near the top of the table as Rushen United welcome Corinthians to Croit Lowey in what is the hosts’ penultimate game of the season.

The sides only met a couple of weeks ago in the cup when the Whites comfortably won 5-1 and another win for Corinthians would see them leapfrog the Spaniards into fourth place. After Saturday, Rushen don’t play again for a month and therefore will want to go into the break on a winning note.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Peel will be expected to bounce back from last week’s heavy defeat to St Mary’s when they host Douglas Athletic at Douglas Road.

The westerners were defensively out of sorts against their title rivals at the Bowl and will be hoping that result was just a blip.

The westerners won the reverse 4-2 and should claim another three points this weekend which would put them back on the top of the table for the time being at least, with St Mary’s enjoying a week off.

Defending champions St George’s remain within striking distance of the top two and they will be expected to claim another three points this weekend at St John’s.

They were ruthless against Town last time out when Sam Caine scored four goals, and they will certainly fancy their chances of racking up another big win.
