The weather played havoc with the senior men’s Manx football fixtures on Saturday afternoon.

Only a handful of fixtures initially survived Storm Jorge across the island, including the Canada Life Premier League games between Peel and champions St Mary’s, plus Douglas Royal v Douglas Athletic.

But the former game, played at Douglas Road, was abandoned shortly after the hour mark with the score a 1-1 because of the weather conditions. Craig Murphy had earlier opened the scoring for the visitors before Dan Simpson’s wind-assisted free-kick levelled for the hosts.

Royal claimed a potentially big win in their battle to beat the drop with an impressive 4-0 victory over Athletic at Ballafletcher.

Jamie Agnew gave the Whites a 1-0 lead at half-time before second half strikes from Kyle Watson, Taylor Andrews and Sam Cox sealed the points for the home side.

In the rearranged ECAP FA Cup clash between RYCOB and Corinthians, the Whites were made to work hard for a battling 4-2 victory over their second division opponents.

Darren Hudgeon and Graham Kennish both netted for the northerners but in the end a brace from Stephen Whitley plus goals from Sean Doyle and Danny Gerrard booked Corinthians’ place in the next round.

Only one game survived the weather in the second division and saw Colby romp to a 7-0 win away at Douglas and District. That result at Noble’s Park ensured the Moonlighters returned to the top of the JCK Division Two standings, albeit having played more games than their rivals.
