The race for the runner-up spot takes centre stage in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday.

St Mary’s currently occupy second spot in the top-flight standings, 18 points behind already-crowned champions St George’s.

The Saints have three games left to play as they try to secure second ahead of rivals Rushen United and Corinthians.

Nick Hurt’s side host Colby in their final home game of the Premier League campaign this weekend, in what should be a winnable match for the Saints.

Hurt’s men have won their last five in all competitions, and should complete a league double over a Colby side that have only won once so far this calendar year.

Rushen United bring their league campaign to a close with arguably the game of the day at Croit Lowey.

The Spaniards face fifth-place DHSOB knowing they need to win and hope St Mary’s and Corinthians fail to secure any more points in their respective run-ins if they are to finish second.

United will be still smarting from last week’s dramatic FA Cup loss at the hands of St George’s having held a 2-0 lead at one stage during the tie.

Old Boys won the reverse fixture 5-1, but expect this one to be closer with Rushen having only dropped five points in Port Erin all season.

Corinthians campaign has faltered a little in recent weeks, but they still have it in their hands to finish second.

The Whites take on Douglas Athletic at Ballafletcher this weekend in a game the hosts should edge to keep the pressure on at the top.

At the foot of the table, Union Mills hopes of playing top-flight football next season seem to get slimmer by the week.

The Millers trail Colby and safety by a still mathematically achievable seven points.

Two games against their relegation rivals could yield six, but the Garey Mooar outfit will need to pick up some others points from their other remaining games if they are to have any chance of moving out of the drop zone.

That will be easier said than done with games against Corinthians, Peel and a rampant St George’s to come, the latter making the trip to Mills on Saturday.

Fourth-bottom Ramsey can put further breathing space between themselves and the relegation places with some points from Peel’s visit to Ballacloan.

The westerners, however, triumphed 6-1 when the pair met in the cup last month suggesting a western win.

St John’s won’t have given up hope of finishing above Peel in the table, sitting only one place and two points below them as they do.

The Saints welcome fellow mid-table outfit Laxey to Mullen-e-Cloie this weekend in what should be another intriguing encounter.

The pair drew 3-3 in October so expect goals in this one.
