In the Ynys Mon Inter Island Football Tournament, the Isle of Man women’s team finished as group winners after defeating Gibraltar 2-1 at Llanerchymedd FC on Monday evening.

The Manx found themselves a goal down after three minutes when Shania Robba gave Gibraltar an early lead.

But the Isle of Man equalised on 17 minutes when Kym Hicklin headed home from a corner to make it 1-1.

The Manx side then had to wait until the 83rd minute to net the all-important winner, Sarah Wignall scoring from a free-kick to earn the three points and ensure they qualify as group winners.

A full match report will appear in this week’s Manx Independent, on sale Thursday morning.
