Douglas Royal have a penchant of scoring dramatic, decisive, late goals this season and this was again very much the case on Thursday evening as they snatched the winner in the closing stages of their Women’s League match with rivals Corinthians at Ballafletcher.

The Whites took the lead through Lisa Costain, but Holly Stephen levelled the scores for Royal before half-time.

Caitlin Smith gave Royal a second-half lead, however, Jade Burden levelled the scoreline scoring from a free-kick that cannoned off the underside of the crossbar.

If the scoreline remained level, Peel would have been crowned champions, but with the match in added time, Royal scored a dramatic winner.

Rebecca Cole’s lobbed effort from distance was fumbled by goalkeeper Sian Smith, Stephen pounced, driving the ball into the net and earn maximum points.

Royal’s victory was made the more impressive by fielding a scratch team, signing five players over the week including goalkeeper Jane Caley who pulled off a number of great saves.

If Royal win their remaining matches they will face Peel in a play-off to determine the destination of this season’s league title.

In the evening’s basement battle, Colby emerged victorious with a 1-0 victory over DHOSB at Blackberry Lane.

With the match goal-less after the interval, the gane’s only goal arrived five minutes from full-time.

Leanne Prescott’s corner was half-cleared and returned back to her. Her second cross found Kayleigh Callow who dinked an effort passed the goalkeeper for Tara Mitchell to slide home from close range for what would proved to be the winner.
