Corinthians secured the 16th Nedbank Women’s FA Cup after defeating Peel 3-2 in the final at the Bowl on Sunday.
A repeat of the 2014-15 and 2015-16 finals (both also ironically finishing 3-2), Lisa Costain gave the Whites a first-half lead.
Eleanor Gawne levelled matters for the westerners shortly after the break, but the Ballafletcher side regained their advantage when Chloe Teare and Lauren Christian both found the net to make it 3-1.
Gawne pulled a goal back for Peel, scoring direct from the corner with the last kick of the game.
Victory saw Corinthians complete the women’s Grand Slam for the third occasion adding the FA Cup to their league title and Floodlit cup success of this season and replicating the treble achievements of 2009-10 and 2011-12.
Corinthians’ midfielder Lydia Shaw won the Player of the Match Award.
It was also Michael Corlett’s last game in charge of Peel AFc women’s team, bringing to an end of his five-year tenure with the westerners. In that time Corlett has guided Peel through their most successful period, culminating with league title and FA Cup success in 2015-16.
A full report will appear in this week’s Manx Independent.
