The usual suspects of Corinthians and Douglas Royal will contest Saturday’s 20th Nedbank Floodlit Cup final.

Douglas Royal secured a record 15th final place and a record 12th consecutive final appearance after landing a 7-2 victory over Laxey in Sunday afternoon’s opening match at the Bowl.

Winning 4-1 at half-time, Rebecca Cole (3), Sarah Breen (2), Leanne Quayle and Gillian Christian found the target for the Whites, the Miners’ responses came via efforts from Megan Kelly and Tia Lisy.

Royal also remain the most successful side in this competition, winning it on seven occasions.

Holders and six-time winners Corinthians put aside their indifferent league form and register a hard-fought 2-0 over league leaders’ Peel with both goals coming in the second half.

Ella Dixon opened the scoring for the Whites with Jade Burden (returned from sunnier climates) netting the second in the closing stages.

In a first for the competition, the final will be played on Saturday teatime. It will be a record ninth time these two sides have gone heads-to-head and contested the Floodlit Cup final.

A round-up of Sunday’s semis, plus a fuller preview of the final will appear in this week’s Manx Independent.
