Barring a freak set of results Douglas Royal have qualified for the semi-finals of the NedBank Women’s Floodlit Cup after defeating Colby 12-0 at the Bowl on Sunday.

Leading 7-0 at the break, Donna Shimmin (5), Rebecca Cole (3), Sophie Chinn (2), Kayleigh Georgeson and Claire Hawley-Scott netted for the Ballafletcher side. The southerners started with only nine players and finished with 10.

With Colby’s goal-difference being eaten away, DHSOB will now only require a draw from their remaining group match against the southerners to qualify for this season’s semis after they beat Douglas Athletic 1-0 in the day’s other game. Carla Flynn’s first-half, long-range strike was the only goal of the match.

The competition’s remaining group matches between Douglas Royal and Douglas Athletic and Colby and DHSOB are to be played on January 7.
