Tom Gandy remains on course to challenge for his first island men’s golf championship after beating leading qualifier Alex McAuley in Tuesday’s last-16 match play at Ramsey Golf Club.
The Rowany member was in fine form as he defeated the Island Games gold medallist 5 and 4 on an evening of cracking action at the northern venue.
Paul Lowey continued the defence of his title by beating Stephen Skillicorn 6 and 5 while Kevin Moore’s return from injury gathered pace as he got the better of Robert Noon 4 and 2.
Elsewhere, two former champions went head-to-head and it was Tom Harris who emerged triumphant over Peter Glover 7 and 5, while Daryl Callister’s ominous form continued as he saw off Peel footballer Daniel Bell 4 and 2.
Danny Foulis successfully kept the Ramsey flag flying high on his local course as he triumphed over Phil Christian 2 and 1, while Lee Morgan edged past good friend Mark Pugh 3 and 2 and Jonathan Corke beat Andrew Challenor 2 and 1.
