Entries for the Parish Walk on Saturday/Sunday, June 22-23 close at midnight this Sunday.
By noon yesterday, 1,434 names had been confirmed for the event, which is sponsored by Manx Telecom. Walkers can choose to take part as individuals or sign-up for one of the two team categories - corporate and overall.
Anyone who has already entered as an individual, but now wants to join a team, can do so by amending their entry online before the final deadline this weekend. There’s also a competition for walkers aged 18 to 21 completing the 32.5 miles to Peel.
The event will be even more exciting this year thanks to a new video service that will enable relatives and friends of walkers to see those who complete the full course as they cross the finish line on Douglas Promenade at the end of the 85-mile challenge. Online results for each finisher will be linked to video content on YouTube.
There will also be a new archway at the finish line that will feature the official time clock and an LED matrix display with additional results information provided by Manx Timing Solutions, the event’s official timing providers. All entries must be made at www.parishwalk.com
The walk starts at 8am on June 22 from the NSC in Douglas. Certificates will be awarded to all walkers who complete the full distance in under 24 hours. Sub 18-hour finishers receive a gold certificate, 18 to 21-hour finishers receive silver, and 21 to 24-hour finishers, bronze.
