There were few surprises in PwC Premier League at the weekend, with Bacchas A and Vikings A each claiming wins.

Castletown Celts picked up their first two points of the season against Bacchas B.

Celts and Bacchas were level going into the final few minutes but captain Robin Masson stepped up and scored with the last touch of the game to move Celts off the bottom of the table and two points clear of the relegation spots.

Bacchas A beat Valkyrs A 4-1, but that isn’t the whole story with Valkyrs missing a number of chances to score which could have made things much closer.

Vikings A versus Ramsey A was a tale of two halves, with Vikings doing well to dominate most of the first half and go in at half-time two goals up. Ramsey came out strong in the second period but eventually came up short after Tom Wilson scored the winner.

There was a very close game between Vikings B and Harlequins A in PwC Mixed Division One, with Vikings scoring the only goal of the game to stay top of the table with four wins out of four.

Harlequins played very well for a side who has lost their opening two fixtures fairly convincingly, but their tenacity in front of goal meant only a couple of real goal-scoring opportunities.

The save of the day doesn’t go to a goalkeeper but to the young and impressive Will Hassall who made not one, not two but three magnificent goal-line clearances in row for his side.

Saracens Sabres bounced back from their loss to Valkyrs B the previous weekend with a brilliant 3-1 win against an experienced and very physical Bacchas C.

Valkyrs B have become huge title contenders following their win last week and followed it up with a big victory against Vikings C, with Ollie Webster showing he still has it with a hat-trick.

In a week that saw all of the Colts teams win for the first time this season, Saracens Colts were impressive in putting Castletown Cammags to the sword 6-1, with Steve Jackson netting a hat-trick in PwC Mixed Division Two.

Ramsey Ravens won the battle of the north when beating Ramsey Rookies 3-1, while Bacchas Colts claimed their first points of the season with a well-earned 1-0 win against Valkyrs C.

In PwC Mixed Division Three, Castletown Southerners overcame Saracens Sharks. Valkyrs D beat Harlequins B in an epic see-saw battle that saw Harlequins go 4-0 down, only to bring it back level but Valkyrs D were able to save their best for the last few minutes to win the game.

Harlequins Colts beat Bacchas D to go top of the table and Vikings Colts earned a fantastic win against former league leaders Vikings D (see report right).

Only one point separates first to fifth, so this looks to be more exciting than last season’s battle of the Colts at the top of the table. With all of the Colts’ teams winning at the weekend, it was clear to see that the future of Manx hockey continues to be bright.
