Boxing Day saw the usual round of festive fixtures in Manx rugby, although all didn’t quite go to plan.

With a busy schedule ahead of them and a lot of wet weather behind them, Douglas decided that discretion was the better part of valour and called off their Christmas outing to give the Port-e-Chee pitches a chance to recover.

Castletown Rugby Club’s current XV beat a side of former players 36-27 in the annual Chris Scott Memorial match at Poulsom Park.

Among the soggy afternoon’s scorers were Aaron Ridings, Morgan Armstrong, brothers Craig and Kyle Martin, Greg Tomlinson and Neil Cowley.

Money raised on the day goes to Hospice Isle of Man.

The annual Unders v Overs game at Southern Nomads went ahead in the damp conditions. The Unders came out on top 35-17 with two tries from Django Kinley and one each from Conor Stephens, Jacob Holstein and Mike Bridgens.

All scorers converted their own tries in a shameless attempt to boost their numbers for the season.

For the Unders, Jon Jurczynski, Rob Craine and the veteran Andy Lean all ran in tries, with Craine also adding a conversion.

At Vagabonds, the annual Paul Cleland Memorial game took place between Vagas and the Young(ish) Farmers.

The result is lost in the mists of time but what was more important was that £1,100 was raised for charity and everyone had a good time.
