Daniel McCanney came out of isolation to win round two of the Centre ACU motocross championship at West Kimmeragh, Bride on Sunday.

Having spent up to one month in Italy racing in the national series and training for the upcoming Enduro World Championship, he was then faced with a fortnight’s isolation back in the island.

’That ended last Monday, but the only training I was able to do during that period was on a Zwift [bicycle] trainer, so I really felt it was hard work today,’ said the 28-year-old.

He wasn’t the only one. The former sand and aggregates quarry has always been a testing venue and despite huge modifications and re-designing in recent years, the undulating course remains the most testing of the three regularly-used motocross venues in the island.

The Honda Racing RedMoto World Enduro Team rider rode extremely well on his CRF450 practice bike.

He finished comfortably ahead of close friend and regular training partner Max Ingham on a similar spec 450 Yamaha in race one.

Ingham grabbed the holeshot in race two and led the Honda man for the first four or five laps. But once ahead, McCanney cruised to victory in devastating fashion, lapping everyone in the field with the exception of Ingham.

Max tried hard again in the last before hurting himself and easing back the throttle.

Liam Crellin proved the best of the rest, closely shadowed by road racer Jamie Cringle in the opening two motos. A slip enabled Craig Norrey to grab fourth in the final standings ahead of Kane Hall and Cringle.

Defending Centre champion, Ryan Cringle, had his first competitive outing on a motorcycle since suffering a number of fractures in a mountain bike incident.

Best of the B groupers overall was 14-year-old Jack Keenan in his first proper adult event on a 125cc Yamaha.

Beau Brown scored two firsts and a second on his way to success in the big-wheel 85 class, beaten by Liam Smith in race two.

Callum Christian won the opening small-wheel race, Travis Meechan the remaining two, but a DNF in the opener had already ruined his day.

Christian failed to start race three, so consistency won the day for Harry Shand by two points from Josh Blackley.

Jacob Wilson won all three 65cc races on a newly-devised internal track, while Finley Knight - a seven-year-old with a famous father - scored his first overall success in the Autos class with a hat-trick of wins on his little Husqvarna.
