Apollo Blinds Vikings A 15

Division Two

Apollo Blinds Vikings C 0

Apollo Blinds Vikings B 16

Apollo Blinds Vikings’ injury crisis continued with their C team having to draft in four reserves to fulfil this fixture.

A particular mention to Laura Mowat, making her league debut at first women’s in this division, leaving her own birthday party early to do so.

The match was played in the best of spirits, with Vikings C reaching double figures in every game but not managing to pick up any league points in the end against their B team.

The closest matches saw the B team’s Hayley Brophy and Steph Foxton defeating Sam Spellman and Laura Mowat 21/17 21/16 and the B team’s Stuart Foley and Haley Brophy beating David Buck and Sam Spellman 21/19 21/16. MF

Athol Park Guest House Castletown A 11

Quine & Cubbon Rushen A 7

Athol Park Guest House Castletown A had success in the men’s doubles with Nick Thornley/James O’Meara beating Richard Kerr/Paul Osborne 21/8 21/19, while brothers Baillie and Fingal Watterson won 21/7 21/9 against Neil Ronan/Rob Mason.

Quine & Cubbon Rushen A responded well in the women’s doubles, with Sarah Goldie/Janet Corkish winning in three ends against Lauraine Williamson/Hannah Clague 21/15 16/21 13/21, followed by Kirree Ronan/Carole Ennett who edged out Lou Mellor/Ashleigh Keown 23/25 15/21 in two tight games.

At fourth mixed Thornley/Clague overcame Goldie/Kerr 21/19 21/14, but the visitors immediately reduced Castletown’s advantage back to a single point with Ennett/Osbourne beating O’Meara/Williamson 14/21 20/22.

Corkish/Mason were unlucky not to take the lead for Rushen, but after losing the first end F. Watterson/Keown held on and fought back to a 18/21 21/18 21/13 win.

B. Watterson/Mellor secured the overall honours for the home side when beating the Ronan siblings 21/12 21/14.

Division Two

Apollo Blinds Vikings C 4

Kirk Michael A 14

Apollo Blinds Vikings C are finding it tough following promotion to this division. Injuries have hit hard with 13 players called upon already over their first three matches.

Making his debut for them this time was Ben Holt, while Lynda Cadamy was welcomed back after an absence of several years.

Three of the level doubles went Kirk Michael A’s way, but a win for Vikings C came from the experienced pair of Margaret Daughen and Cadamy beating Alison Craine and Jess Corlett 16/21 26/24 21/11.

The mixed doubles saw some very competitive matches and again Kirk Michael A picked up three ties, the single win for Vikings C coming at second mixed where Mark Falconer and Daughen won through against Brian Drew and Leanne Miller 20/22 21/17 22/20 in a match that kept the spectators on the edge of their bench through to the final rally.
