The No Rest for the Wicked running series gets away in earnest on Monday evening, although it does include either Isle of Man Marathon or Half-Marathon on Sunday.

While the latter two events are completely separate in their own entities, the No Rest series continues for the remainder of the week with evening events - on and off-road alternately.

It is not necessary to enter all of the events, indeed the majority of athletes are quite selective and many of those participating in the marathon or half-marathon simply aim to contest either of those two events only.

But for those who continue with the remaining five ’club’ events, they are pooled into two leagues - one for those who begin with the full marathon and the other for those who contest the half-marathon as leg one.

The No Rest for the Wicked series is sponsored by Bell Burton Associates, The Garage Door and Gate company, and Up & Running Isle of Man.

Monday’s hill race at Peel, organised by Western AC, covers a distance of almost four miles including a tough climb to the tower.

The action returns to Ramsey on the Tuesday for the Northern 10km on road, involving three laps of a short loop incorporating Mooragh Park, North Shore Promenade and Bowring Road.

Wednesday’s Killer Mile is also in the north, based at Churchtown, Lezayre, climbing one mile up to Sky Hill. Runners set off individually in 30-second intervals.

The Foxdale Six-mile road race starts with a two-mile descent to the Hope, followed by a stiff climb and a further loop on small country lanes to the Eairy Dam.

The route then returns to the finish next to Foxdale School.

This event is organised by Manx Harriers.

A packed week of action concludes on Friday with the Heritage Trail Run of approximately seven miles, mostly on the former railway line.

It starts from the rear of the kipper houses on Peel harbourside and heads towards St John’s before switching to the northern line through Poortown to German.

A short half-mile stretch on road is followed by a final scenic coastal path stretch to the finish behind the bowling green, overlooking Peel promenade.

All of the evening events begin at 7pm, enter on the night (for those not contesting the overall series) from 6.15.

The final event will be followed by a presentation for the series in Peel later that evening.

Most of the races have a small buffet afterwards.
