Liam Parker has won the 2017 Manx Telecom Parish Walk.

The 26-year-old from Ramsey completed the gruelling 85-mile annual endurance test in a time of 15 hours 36 minutes and 59 seconds to become the youngest winner in more than two decades.

The former footballer, who is an electrician by trade, eventually crossed the line ahead of Karen Chiarello who broke the women’s record, beating Janice Quirk's record from 2009 by more than four minutes.

Earlier in the day, Connor Gilbert and Anna Hall won the respective men’s and women’s under-21 races to Peel.

Gilbert completed the 32-mile distance in 6hr 12m 44s, nearly 12 minutes ahead of second-placed Jamie Dudley and Samuel Bowers.

Hall, meanwhile, was more than half an hour quickest than the second fastest u21 female, Rebecca Greatbatch who in turn was eight minutes clear of Molly Christian in third.
