There were mixed fortunes for Manx competitors Tom Partington and Mia Dunwell at the English Indoor Senior Race Walking Championships in Sheffield on Sunday.
Partington was the clear winner of the men’s 3,000-metre event in a time of 12min 59sec.
His training has focused on 10km as he aims to achieve the Commonwealth Games consideration standard, but he looked comfortable and controlled throughout.
The 22-year-old Manx Harrier finished almost one full lap ahead of Luc Legon (Bexley) with junior Christian Hopper (Cambridge Harriers) in third.
Northern AC’s Mia Dunwell was making her indoor debut in the 3,000m women’s event, and she made a positive start in a competitive field.
She was in fourth place at the 2km mark, but was finding the steeply-banked turns increasingly difficult. Struggling with her technique, she was unfortunately disqualified in the closing laps.
The next race for both walkers will be a track event in Leeds on February 5 - Tom in the 10,000m and Mia over 5,000m.
