Manx Hockey Association’s Rossborough Mixed Premier League will be decided this weekend with two huge games taking place.
Ramsey A will be hoping Vikings A slip up against their arch rivals Bacchas A, while the northerners themselves welcome Castletown Celts to the Grammar School. Although Celts will be by no means a pushover, it is the northerners who take the favourites tag.
In the Vikings A versus Bacchas A fixture, the former are favourites but Bacchas always lift their game for the big occasion and will no doubt present a huge hurdle for their opponents. Even if Vikings lose to Bacchas, Ramsey also need a 10-goal swing in the goal difference stakes so they will be hoping that they can score the required amount as well as Vikings losing goals. One thing is for sure, both games are not to be missed.
Elsewhere there is a Valkyrs derby between their A and B teams and, with the former out of the title race, could their B side spring a surprise and overcome their A team to try and survive relegation?
With a superior goal difference, the westerners have the edge over their relegation rivals Bacchas B if they can get the two points they require to stay up.
Bacchas B take on Vikings B who have had huge highs as well as incredible lows this year, beating Bacchas A then losing 12-0 to their own A team, but they remain the favourites to take both points on offer against Bacchas B.
The big game in Rossborough Mixed Division One - now that the title has been secured by Valkyrs C - is the relegation battle between Ramsey Ravens and Castletown Cammags.
Both sides have played better than their points tally suggests and last week’s surprise result for Ramsey against Castletown Southerners sees them hold the advantage currently by one point.
When Ramsey Ravens and Castletown Cammags face off on Saturday, it is a winner-takes-all battle - any point for Ramsey will be enough to survive another season.
There are a number of teams all vying for second place in the form of Harlequins A who play the champions Valkyrs C, as well as Bacchas Colts, Cushags, Southerners and Vikings C.
Valkyrs C, despite already claiming the title, will be favourites against Harlequins A. Bacchas Colts start as the favourites against Castletown Cushags, but the southern-based side are the surprise package of the season and will be going all out to win.
Despite being Castletown’s fourth team could actually end up beating both their second and third string sides this year.
Southerners go into their match against Vikings C as slight favourites but much depends on what sort of side they can field. Despite losing to Vikings C in the Plate, it was very much a weakened side that Castletown had to field because of player unavailability.
Rossborough Mixed Division two sees the fight for second place go to the wire as well, with four teams all competing.
Valkyrs D take on fellow challengers Ramsey Rookies, while Vikings E tackle Harlequins B. All four of those sides still have a great chance of claiming that second place.
Vikings D finish their winning league season against Bacchas C, while there is an inter-club derby between the two current bottom sides, Castletown Carrick and Castletown Cosney.
