The excitement in both Premier Divisions heads north this week as back-to-back fixtures in Ramsey offer the home team the chance to offer punishment to league leaders.
The women push back at 12.35pm and Ramsey A have had some of the most competitive matches against Vikings in recent seasons, although as they are in a rebuilding year they may not be able to take the game to Vikings to the extent they have done in recent years.
Immediately following this match, their men’s A team take on Bacchas A who attracted some criticism in early weeks of the season for less-than-convincing scorelines but seem to have become all the stronger for it. Nevertheless, the first game between these two teams was settled by only a couple of goals.
Elsewhere in the Men’s Premier Division, Valkyrs face Bacchas’ second string who don’t quite look to be the force they have been in previous season, while a Vikings club derby is only likely to give their A team the chance to improve their goal difference.
The Women’s Premier sees fixtures for Bacchas A against a resurgent Castletown A - not a foregone conclusion but in the white team’s favour - while Valkyrs will be hoping not to give Harlequins a two-goal headstart as they did the last time the teams met.
Women’s Division One is shaping up to be an interesting battle. League leaders Bacchas Colts have what should be a victory over Valkyrs C, but the interesting fixture is Vikings B versus Valkyrs B - currently second and third in the league and both two points behind Bacchas.
Whichever team wins is likely to chase Bacchas for the title, while Bacchas themselves would love nothing more than to see a draw. Also of interest is the middle of the table. The league splits after this match, with the top four playing each other again and the bottom four consigned to positions five to eight.
In the driving seat to hold a top-four position are Saracens who, assuming Valkyrs C lose to the league leaders, only need to overcome Ramsey to ensure their place in the top half. Their league record suggests they are favourites to do this.
Should Saracens slip up and Valkyrs lose, it is Castletown who will finish the weekend in fourth place in the table on goal difference provided they win against bottom-of-the-table Harlequins B.
Lower league men’s will likely see Castletown put one hand on the title if they can beat Vikings C.
Saracens and Harlequins are both likely to follow up last week’s epic 5-5 draw against easier opposition in the form of Bacchas Colts and Valkyrs B respectively,
In Division Two, Ramsey will almost take the title should results follow expectations and they beat Saracens B. Castletown could theoretically catch them if they lose their final two games.
A bottom-of-the-table clash between Bacchas C and Harlequins B will give both teams the chance for some much-needed points.
l Tuesday evening’s PwC Women’s Premier Division top-of-the-table clash between Vikings A and Valkyrs A was postponed because of a frozen pitch.
