Jonathan Rea finished second the 2017 BBC Sports Personality of the Year on Sunday evening.
The Castletown resident was shortlisted for the prestigious award after clinching a record-breaking third successive World Superbike Championship title, breaking Colin Edwards’s 15-year-old points record in a single season along the way.
In doing so, Rea moved to within only five wins of the all-time record of 59 held by four-time champion Carl Fogarty and was also made an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours recently.
The annual event took place at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Sunday evening when the public voted for who they think should be crowned as Britain’s leading sportsman or woman for the last 12 months.
Rea received the second place trophy from Liverpool and Scotland football legend Kenny Dalglish, finishing behind 10,000m world champion Mo Farah, while Jonny Peacock was third.
