Kart racing has been on a high this year, reaching an all-time record number of 73 entries at Jurby on Sunday for the final round of the series.

Nine youngsters took to the grid in the Bambino class, with an age range from six to eight years.

They competed individually in time trials against the clock, with Thomas Parker claiming a full-house in the heats and final, setting a fastest lap of 65.54 seconds.

He was followed by Charlie Quine, David Leece, Alfie Bass, William McAllister, Leo Philbin, Harvey-J- Wagstaffe, Ralphy Hooper and Ronan Quinn. Well done to them all, setting personal bests throughout the day.

Finn Collister claimed the opening two heats in the Honda Cadet Extreme class, with Eddie Dillon winning heat three.

The final produced close racing throughout, but it was Finn that managed to squeeze home to take the chequered flag by 0.21 of a second from Jake Hooper, who kept the pressure on him all the way, followed by Eddie Dillon. The latter set the best lap in 54.21s.

Well done Jayjay Plowman, Bobby Cowin, Alex McCullagh, Cameron Cannon, Riley Hooper, Harry Warby and Millie Bennett for producing some great racing.

Shane Collins dominated the Junior Rotax class, winning all three heats and establishing a new lap record. He then won the final, setting another lap record of 46.39s in the process.

There was some close racing between Fenella Lane and Aaron Redmond, but Fenella kept her head down all the way to claim second place at the line.

Well done to Jayden Dodd for setting personal best times and Nickolas Ellis on his debut appearance.

A huge grid of 28 Honda Senior Extremes formed the biggest field of the day resulting in some intense racing.

Anthony Bentley-Roberts, Rob Fagg and Liam McCann won a heat apiece. An exciting final ultimately saw Fagg take the early lead from McCann, but he then stayed hot on Fagg’s rear bumper before managing to squeeze past on the final lap to take the win by 0.496s, with Dan Fielden third. McCann set the fastest lap of 51.74s.

The remainder of the field put on a great show, with lots of overtaking throughout. Well done to novice drivers Gavin Batty, Joseph Coulson and Giulio Fabrizio on their debut appearances.

Another big grid of 20 Libres produced more close racing, but Terry Rigaux claimed all three heats to put him on pole for the final.

Once the flag dropped he stormed off and continued to take charge over 17 laps to take the win by 2.8sec from regular two-wheelers’ Jake Subachus and Max Ingham.

l Thanks go to clerk of the course Roger Moore, all the marshals, medic, Sarah Moore timing and Johno’s for serving hot food and drinks.
