Douglas RUFC beat Northwich 36-24 at Port-e-Chee to bounce back from last week’s defeat in North West One.
They led 24-12 at half-time following tries from Glyn Hooson-Owen, Sam Games and Nick Brooker plus three conversions and a penalty from Bryn Snellgrove.
Brooker ran in his second after the break which Snellgrove again converted before flying machine Adam Boyd rounded the day off for Douglas.
Improving Vagabonds beaten at home
A spirited Vagabonds were beaten 45-7 at home by Marple and, while their start to the season has been memorable for the wrong reasons, this performance showed some green shoots of encouragement.
Marple were 21-0 up after 23 minutes with tries from Ryan Gordon, Daniel Mead and Andy King all converted by Paul Haworth.
Vagas pulled one back when Jonathan Riley went in and with Tommy Rowley’s conversion it was 21-7. Ryan Gordon’s second, however, left Marple 28-7 in front at half time.
Vagas threatened for 20 minutes or so in the second half with the scorers untroubled but Marple eventually cracked the defence with further tries from Darren David and Jonty Ashton plus Ryan Gordon’s hat-trick.
Ramsey claim big win on the road
Ramsey kept their 100 per cent record going with a 51-7 win away against Liverpool University.
Former captain Daniel Bonwick was the star of the show with three tries from the unusual position of back row. In addition to the hat-trick there were also tries from Nathan Thompson, Dave Keenan and James Wren.
The busy Bonwick shared kicking duties with Scott Kneale and between them they landed six conversions and three penalties.
Douglas Celts and Emerging Nomads claim spoils in Shimmin Wilson competitions
Douglas Celts beat Ramsey B 84-0 at Mooragh Park to take charge in the early stages of the Shimmin Wilson Manx Trophy while Emerging Nomads beat Vagabonds B 73-37 at Ballafletcher to do the same in the Manx Bowl.
