Ramsey claimed the Lancashire/Cheshire Division Three title with a 34-14 win against third-placed Old Bedians.

Watling played in Ramsey’s first league game back in 2008 and has played in more than 80 per cent of all their matches in between.

The game didn’t all go Ramsey’s way though. Bedians were not over to make up the numbers and actually led 13-14 at half-time.

Their two converted tries were almost matched by tries from Dan Bonwick and Harri Radford at the other end with a Scott Kneale penalty keeping Ramsey in touch.

Watling bagged his first early in the second half and Scott Kneale’s conversion pushed the lead out to six points.

Bedians came back strongly, but as the clock wound down Ramsey’s ’Melvin minutes’ kicked in as fitness coach Tom Melvin saw his hard work pay off with Kieran Kneale and Watling crossing for late tries to clinch the game and the league title.

Fuller report and more photos in Tuesday’s Isle of Man Examiner.
