The finals of the Isle of Man Snooker and Billiards Association’s Joe Davis competitions were held at Cue Zone over the weekend.
The events had been carried over from the previous one where an excellent entry of 36 had been whittled down.
First up in the plate final for players knocked out in the first round of the main event, Scott Campion took on Shaun Roberts with the format remaining the same - best of three frames with a re-spotted black played should the match reach 1-1.
With the first two frames shared, this was the case as the black was re-spotted to determine the winner. With Campion winning the toss, he elected to put Roberts in and, playing the side-to-side shot, the latter left it short which allowed Campion to cut the black into the pocket for the victory.
Congratulations go to Campion who will collect a trophy at the presentation night in his first season - he won every match of the plate competition 2-1 with a re-spotted black!
Attention then turned to the main Joe Davis Handicap final between John Spellman and Brendan Clague, the latter receiving a 14 start in the best-of-three full frames format.
A great pink and black from Spellman in frame one forced a re-spotted black which went his way as Clague went in off.
In frame two, Spellman found his potting and pulled away after making up the start but Clague was able to claw his way back and again it went down to the colours.
On this occasion Spellman needed only the pink, only for his opponent to yet again go in-off and leave the pink over the yellow pocket for Spellman to take frame and match.
Congratulations to Spellman who takes another title to add to his 2020 Doug Kinrade win and also to Clague for making his first major final.
Thanks go to all at The Cue Zone for hosting the event and to referees Darryl Hill for the plate and Sam Palmer for the final.
