There were many intriguing games across all the hockey leagues on Saturday, with some surprise results upsetting the title favourites.

In the PwC Mixed Premier League, an eight-goal thriller saw Valkyrs A and Vikings A end with a 4-4 draw (see full match report right).

Bacchanalians A proved their finishing prowess by thrashing Harlequins 8-0 thanks to hat-tricks from Karl Moore and Andy Whiting, with Kim Carney and Jamie Brown also on target.

Ramsey A showed they deserved to be back in the top flight by recording a 3-1 win over Bacchanalians B, with Tom Tsitsos, Megan Roberts and Juan Kermeen finding the net for Ramsey. Bacchas’ consolation goal came from Sophie Hudson.

Over in PwC Mixed Division One, Celts caused an upset by beating potential league favourites Vikings B 2-1 thanks to goals from Robin Masson and Christian Steriopolous, with Sarah Blackman on target for the blacks.

In a six-goal affair Bacchanalians C came out on top over Cammags with a 4-2 victory. Captain Matt Greenbank and Josh Riordan both scored braces to gain the two points, with Alistair Ledger and Martin Fretwell reducing the goal deficit for the reds.

Another upset saw Saracens Sabres take the two points from Valkyrs B who are pushing for promotion, with George Powell and Stephen Cottier on the scoresheet for Saracens. Julian Colley replied for Valkyrs.

In PwC Mixed Division Two Bacchanalians Colts exerted their dominance against a newly-promoted Valkyrs D side with a 4-0 victory with both Andy Kneale and Alex Reynolds netting two goals apiece.

In a tighter game, Ramsey Ravens were triumphant over Vikings C with a 2-0 scoreline - Connor Hird scoring both for the northerners.

In the highest scoring game of the league, Valkyrs C thrashed Ramsey Rookies 6-0, John Sanderson the playmaker with three assists and one goal himself.

PwC Mixed Division Three saw more high-scoring games, with Harlequins B beating a young Bacchanalians D side 4-1 via a Sandra Wrigley hat-trick and a Helen Cave strike. Bacchas’ reply came from Ian Wrigley.

It was a great day for Harlequins in this division as Harlequins Colts beat rivals Saracens Sharks with the same 4-1 scoreline. Matt Davin scored an impressive hat-trick with Pete Nuttall also on target, while Emma Roberts scored for Saracens.

In the final game in the third division Saracens Colts recorded a strong 4-0 win over a struggling Southerners side. Tom Roberts got a hat-trick with Shannon Primrose-Smith scoring the other.

There was plenty of action in the Under-16s League too, Bacchanalians’ u16s showed their promise by beating Ramsey 4-0 with Elliot Reid (2), Philip Bridson and Toby Hudson all getting their names on the scoresheet.
